THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Can we retain our perfume pump after removing alcohol from the formula?
Treat the reformulated fragrance as a new application. Submit its technical brief and compare production-intent sprayers with the final formula before retaining the old configuration.
Make the change visible
The bottle and fragrance name may stay the same while the liquid changes substantially. Supply the new formula revision and relevant physical characteristics to the pump supplier. A statement such as less alcohol leaves the technical team guessing about the replacement system and other ingredient changes.
Aptar distinguishes formula-specific configurations in its spray offering. Use that distinction to request an application review. It does not imply that an aqueous-labelled pump automatically suits every alcohol-free perfume or that a familiar exterior proves an unchanged internal construction.
Compare the original and proposed systems
Preserve the former formula and approved pump as a historical reference where practical. The new formula must meet its own product brief rather than imitate a result it cannot reasonably deliver.
- Record startup and restart after idle storage.
- Compare the intended pressing rhythm and end-of-use behavior.
- Inspect leakage and contacting materials after conditioning.
- Assess nozzle residue, staining, and finished-pack appearance.
Distinguish formula behavior from component failure
If all candidates behave differently from the original fragrance, ask the formulation team whether the desired experience remains achievable with the new liquid. Do not repeatedly reject pumps because the brief assumes the old solvent system. Review the product and package together.
If only one candidate changes after storage, preserve those packs and compare their construction with a stable control. Request an explanation tied to the exact engine, insert, seals, and formula. A fresh spray demonstration should not override a failed conditioned assembly.
Release the complete conversion
Approve the new formula, bottle, sprayer, cap, decoration, and user directions as one identified revision. Recheck any prior transport claim against the new filled pack. Keep supporting reports linked to their actual sample identities.
Inform purchasing and the filler which stock belongs to the previous formula. Establish whether existing pumps can be used, require separate qualification, or must remain allocated to the old product. A clear transition prevents a successful development choice being undermined by an unreviewed substitution during launch.
