THE DECISION IN BRIEF
A mist sprays differently in a cool room. Should we reject the pump lot?
Compare matched packs at defined temperatures and after recovery, with the product team controlling formula stability and the supplier reviewing the selected construction.
Record the temperature that matters
Separate storage temperature, liquid temperature during use, and ambient conditions during observation. A bottle moved from a cold area may not immediately match the room. Record conditioning and equilibration rather than describing samples simply as cold or warm.
Ask the formulation team which temperatures are relevant and which may change the product itself. Do not use an arbitrary extreme as a proxy for ordinary distribution. A test that alters the formula can answer a stress question while failing to predict the intended consumer experience.
Compare reversible and persistent changes
Berlin Packaging includes stability and performance methods in its quality resources. Select a method for the actual decision instead of treating temperature exposure as a generic pass/fail ritual.
- Establish a reference at the agreed normal condition.
- Observe dispensing after the selected conditioning.
- Allow an agreed recovery period and repeat.
- Inspect leakage, appearance, and actuator return separately.
Follow the evidence
If behavior returns to baseline after equilibration, investigate whether the product brief needs a defined use condition or a more suitable configuration. If the change remains, ask the technical teams to review material interaction, formula change, and mechanical damage. Preserve conditioned packs rather than immediately replacing their heads.
Compare matched controls from the same formula and pump lots. A difference between unrelated samples cannot isolate temperature. If multiple candidates are being considered, keep actuation method and use sequence consistent so the comparison does not reward the most carefully demonstrated sample.
Set a bounded approval
Agree the use and storage conditions that the finished pack must meet. Document the selected exposure, evaluation method, and any recovery step. These are application-specific criteria and should not be presented as a universal temperature rating for mist sprayers.
Keep the formula and construction identities with the result. Reassess meaningful changes to solvent system, seals, engine, or bottle before transferring the evidence. When communicating with purchasing, distinguish a confirmed lot defect from a configuration that simply does not meet the intended temperature brief; those require different corrective decisions.
