THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Should our oil bottle ship with the sprayer fitted or under a transport closure with the sprayer separate?
Compare complete proposed arrangements for the distribution route and the customer's first-use task. Include fit, protection, identification and assembly rather than deciding on component cost alone.
Treat the options as different packages
An attached sprayer and a separately packed sprayer create different histories before first use. Identify each proposed bottle closure, protection arrangement and secondary pack. Ask the suppliers for configuration-specific information rather than using a general shipper description.
The separate option also creates a customer assembly task. Confirm whether the product's intended users can identify the correct part and follow the proposed instructions. Do not assume that a technically suitable loose sprayer will be installed correctly without evaluation.
Compare the full sequences
For each arrangement, document packing, transport evaluation, unpacking, assembly where applicable and first dispensing. Use the actual formula and representative package. Preserve any deviation, such as a missing protective part or an assembly step requiring an unexpected tool.
If transport performance favours one arrangement while first use favours another, keep both findings visible. The buyer may need another protection design or clearer assembly instruction. A dry shipment alone does not establish a satisfactory customer experience.
- Identify every closure and protective part.
- Record how the loose sprayer is held and labelled.
- Observe customer assembly without coaching.
- Check dispensing after the complete sequence.
Make an orderable choice
Silgan identifies its integrated lock as a portability feature. Ask the supplier to define the protection and closure arrangement for each shipping option. The comparison should extend through unpacking and first use so a distribution improvement does not conceal an assembly difficulty.
Request identified samples for the preferred arrangement and record the accepted packing method. Include component matching and instructions in purchasing so the separate parts cannot be mixed with another SKU. If the arrangement changes later, review distribution and first use together instead of treating the change as a simple carton-cost adjustment.
Keep spare parts matched
If separate sprayers are packed, include a clear way for the user and filler to identify the correct bottle pairing. Similar loose components can be mixed during packing or support requests. Review that identification in the sample sequence, especially when another product shares a carton or refill accessory format.
