LOTION & FOAM PUMPS / SPECIFICATION NOTE

Set Foam Bottle Fill Level with the Selected Assembly

Confirm displacement and process clearance before increasing fill.

THE DECISION IN BRIEF

Can we fill a foamer bottle to the brim to make it look fuller?

Use the approved bottle capacity, pump displacement and filling instructions to set the fill. Trial the complete process and selected assembly; visible fullness alone is not an appropriate fill specification.

Distinguish capacity from saleable fill

Obtain the bottle supplier's capacity information and the intended product fill specification. Clarify whether a number describes nominal content or another capacity condition. Ask the filler to reconcile these with the selected foamer and its insertion sequence.

Silgan's G3 page identifies a screw-on attachment and bottle options for that foamer. It is a reminder that the bottle and foamer should be reviewed together, rather than treating a bottle capacity listing as permission to fill to any visually convenient level.

Review the proposed fill

Have the relevant suppliers and product team set the actual requirements. Do not borrow a universal headspace percentage from another product.

  • Identify the bottle reference and capacity definitions.
  • Confirm the selected assembly and displacement information.
  • Observe filling, insertion and closure application.
  • Inspect sealing surfaces and exterior product wetting.
  • Evaluate the resulting pack through relevant storage and use.

Look at what happens during insertion

Record whether bulk is displaced into the neck or onto surfaces that should remain in their intended assembly condition. Preserve the actual process sequence, including any wait before the pump is applied. A hand-filled sample may avoid conditions the line creates.

If visual fullness is important, compare bottle geometry and presentation options rather than simply increasing fill. The visible level can change with bottle shape, label coverage and formula appearance.

Keep net-content and formulation decisions with the responsible teams. Packaging evaluation should support the selected fill and process, not casually redefine the product quantity to solve a display concern.

Make the fill reproducible

Document the accepted fill target and relevant process information with the bottle and pump references. When the engine or bottle changes, review whether its insertion and capacity effects remain covered. The purchase should produce a consistent filled pack that assembles and operates correctly, not just an attractive level in one carefully prepared sample.
