THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Can we use the full-size perfume pump specification for a travel mini?
Use the full-size product as a brief, then approve the mini’s bottle, pump, tube, handling, refill method, and transport protection independently.
Identify what the smaller format changes
A miniature can change grip, internal geometry, tube behavior, cap size, and the number of intended sprays per use. A short bottle does not simply need a shorter version of every component. Ask the supplier for a defined mini assembly and record its differences from the main pack.
Aptar’s 31MS page identifies travel and sampling configurations, while its Private Spray page presents a distinct portable refillable format. Those examples show that miniatures are deliberate package configurations. They do not prove equivalence between your proposed full-size and travel pumps.
Compare the mini against its own brief
State whether the format is a disposable sample, a retail travel product, or a reusable accessory. Each creates different purchasing and user requirements.
- Assess first-use direction and finger access.
- Verify tube position and final usable sprays.
- Review cap retention and pocket or bag handling.
- Evaluate refill transfer only if the format is intended for it.
Keep delivery expectations realistic
If the brand wants the mini to feel like the main perfume, compare them with the same formula and intended user action. Record differences in actuation and application rather than assuming nominal dose or spray descriptors guarantee the same experience. Do not assign a catalogue family’s dose to a specific SKU without confirmation.
Evaluate filled weight and grip, not loose pumps. A small cap may be difficult to remove or easy to lose; a very compact actuator may obscure direction. Resolve these issues before decoration approval commits the format to a fixed silhouette.
Release a separate approved assembly
Confirm the mini’s final component identities, formula revision, packing, and instructions. Reassess any relevant transport claim using the actual filled format and distribution scenario. Approval of the large retail bottle cannot automatically cover the smaller assembly.
Keep the mini linked to the parent fragrance in the product record while preserving its own specification and change controls. That allows purchasing to compare costs and replenish correctly without treating a visually matching travel pack as technically interchangeable with the main bottle.
