THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Our perfume sprayer clicks loudly. Is that a quality defect?
Compare the sound with the approved construction and brand brief. Distinguish intended operating noise from new damage-related noise before requesting a quieter option.
Define the acoustic expectation
A quiet luxury concept may place greater importance on sound than an everyday mist. State that preference early instead of rejecting a functioning production lot against an unstated expectation. Keep an identified approved sample and compare it under consistent observation conditions.
Record whether the sound occurs during pressing, release, cap removal, or collar movement. A click from the engine is a different issue from scraping between decorative parts. Capture the action and location rather than sending an isolated audio clip with no component identity.
Use a practical comparison
Silgan describes noise-free, soft-actuation options for particular configurations. That demonstrates an available design distinction without making silence a universal quality requirement.
| Sound pattern | Next question |
|---|---|
| Consistent from initial use | Does it match the approved design and brief? |
| New after conditioning | Has contact or material behavior changed? |
| Scraping near the collar | Is there external interference? |
| Irregular with weak return | Is the operating mechanism changing? |
Evaluate a quieter candidate as a complete change
Ask the supplier to identify the engine and other differences in a proposed quieter version. Compare pressing feel, return, leakage, restart, and cap relationship using the actual formula. Do not choose sound in isolation if the replacement fails a required functional gate.
For a formal acoustic requirement, agree an appropriate method, environment, and criterion with qualified teams. A phone recording can support communication but should not become an undocumented measurement standard. Keep subjective preference and controlled comparison distinct.
Release the selected sound and feel reference with the exact construction. If current stock meets the existing approval but a quieter experience is desired, treat that as a planned design revision rather than relabeling every earlier unit defective. Conversely, investigate a new irregular noise that accompanies damage or function loss even when sound was not originally a marketing priority.
