THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Can we advertise our mist as working upside down because it sprays once when inverted?
No. Request a configuration designed for inverted spraying and evaluate repeated inverted use, orientation changes, fill levels, and leakage before making the claim.
Determine whether the feature is necessary
Observe the intended application. A targeted hair mist may be tilted during use, while a fragrance bottle may normally remain upright. Distinguish occasional tilt from continuous inversion and from spraying while moving between positions. Write the actual need before accepting the cost or constraints of a specialized configuration.
Silgan's Mark VII Max page identifies inverted spraying as an available option. That is evidence that orientation behavior is a deliberate specification choice. It does not establish the capability of another model or of every variant within a familiar product family.
Challenge the proposed orientation feature
Ask the supplier to define the intended operating envelope and test the exact assembly. A first inverted spray may use liquid already available inside the pump and does not demonstrate sustained operation.
- Evaluate repeated strokes in each intended orientation.
- Include transitions between upright and inverted positions.
- Repeat at representative high and low fill levels.
- Inspect leakage during relevant storage orientations.
Separate dispensing capability from transport approval
A pump can be proposed for inverted actuation without that alone demonstrating that the filled pack should be stored inverted. Agree operating use and storage conditions separately. Inspect the bottle interface, venting arrangement where applicable, and any protective lock through the relevant evaluation.
If inverted performance deteriorates only near the end of the bottle, examine the collection arrangement and the residual-liquid pattern. If it fails at all fill levels after several strokes, ask whether the supplied sample truly represents the proposed orientation option. Keep component identities visible rather than accepting a new unlabelled head for comparison.
Release a bounded claim
Have the product team review the final instruction and claim wording against the observed conditions. Avoid adding all-angle or continuous-spray promises beyond what was assessed. A clear demonstration of the intended consumer action is more useful than a dramatic one-stroke inversion video.
Preserve the exact engine, actuator, tube arrangement, bottle, formula, and inspection sequence in the approved specification. If the additional feature is unnecessary for the actual application, a simpler configuration may be a better commercial choice. That decision should follow the user brief, rather than an assumption that more features always produce a better mist package.
