THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Can we use the same oil sprayer for a new fragrance because the base oil is unchanged?
Treat the new fragrance as a formula variant. Obtain a focused technical review of the change and compare the relevant behavior before extending the existing configuration.
Identify the actual difference
Ask the formulation owner for a controlled comparison between the approved formula and the proposed fragrance variant. A sales description such as same base does not identify the ingredients or concentrations that changed. Keep the new revision distinct even when the bottle artwork is the only visible difference.
Share the information needed for a supplier review through the appropriate confidential route. If the fragrance composition cannot be disclosed fully, state the limitation and agree what samples or technical discussion can support a provisional candidate decision.
Use the existing evidence intelligently
The approved package provides a useful reference, but it should not erase the new question. Compare the variant with the established formula using matching assemblies and the same relevant observations. Focus on changes that matter to use: restart, return, deposit, residue and component appearance.
If both behave similarly under the agreed comparison, document exactly what was reviewed. If the new variant changes performance, preserve affected parts and request a configuration-specific supplier response. Do not substitute a different pump informally while leaving the product record under the old approval.
- Record the new formula and fragrance reference.
- Identify what remained unchanged.
- Request supplier review of the specific change.
- Keep baseline and variant samples separately labelled.
Keep variants identifiable at filling
If the fragrance variants share a production line, preserve their formula identities on trial bottles after decoration or labels are removed. An internal scent nickname may be useful conversationally but is insufficient for a supplier examining returned parts. Use the controlled formula reference in the comparison record.
