THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Our tinted mist discolors the white actuator. Is a darker color the right fix?
Locate the exposure and evaluate material condition before changing color. Compare decoration, substrate, and contact behavior using identified samples of the actual formula.
Map the visible change
Photograph the actuator, cap interior, collar, and bottle interface before use and after the agreed sequence. Record where liquid normally contacts the pack. A stain near the outlet suggests a different exposure route from a ring underneath the collar.
Compare wiped and unwiped observations using an approved cleaning method. Record whether the mark transfers, remains within the surface, or accompanies softening, cracking, or loss of adhesion. A darker color can conceal the mark without addressing an underlying material or coating problem.
Build a small material comparison
Aptar lists aesthetic and material options for spray assemblies. Request identified production-intent samples so a color proposal does not silently change the base resin or coating.
- Use the same formula batch and contact sequence.
- Identify substrate, color, and decoration process.
- Include an unexposed retained component.
- Inspect appearance and physical condition independently.
Choose the right corrective route
If only one external coating changes, ask for an alternative finish and reassess its wear and formula contact. If the substrate changes, request a material review. If wetting is excessive because of nozzle afterdrip, investigate that mechanism before choosing a finish that hides it.
Have the product team assess any concern about transfer to the formula or user-contact surfaces. Do not describe staining as merely cosmetic until the relevant technical review supports that conclusion. Equally, avoid declaring a material unsafe based on a visual change alone.
Approve an honest appearance standard
If a controlled appearance change is accepted, document its extent with reference samples and clear viewing conditions. Decide whether it remains acceptable through repeated intended use. A pristine unused master sample cannot define the permitted aged appearance by itself.
Release the selected resin, color, coating, and formula revision together. Require review when a pigment, fragrance, dye, or decoration process changes. Keep the root cause and accepted remedy in the approval record so future sourcing does not reintroduce the original exposed finish for a small piece-price saving.
