THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Our logo rubs off the mist cap after packing. How should we revise the approval?
Identify the contact and decoration process, then compare production-intent samples under the relevant packing, handling, and formula-exposure conditions.
Identify what the proof represented
Check whether the approved sample used the final substrate, surface preparation, ink or coating, and process. A visual mockup may have shown placement without representing production adhesion or wear. Ask the supplier to state those differences rather than treating every attractive sample as a durability reference.
Locate the damage. Rubbing on the top may come from carton contact, while a finger-contact area may wear during opening. Smearing after formula exposure is another mechanism. Preserve marked samples with their original packing and use history.
Select comparisons by exposure
O.Berk describes decorated-package visualization as part of creative development. Keep that visual approval separate from the physical durability evidence requested for the final cap.
- Compare unused printed caps with packed and handled caps.
- Review the actual tray, bag, and carton contact points.
- Include ordinary finger contact and intended refitting.
- Assess relevant formula contact using an agreed method.
Correct the actual mechanism
If damage follows a contact point in the carton, review spacing or protection as well as decoration. If the print fails under ordinary use without packing exposure, ask for a process or material proposal. Do not solve every mark by adding an overcoat without reviewing appearance, feel, and formula contact.
Agree an appropriate wear or adhesion evaluation with the supplier and quality team. State its method and objective rather than inventing a universal rub count. Compare samples under the same conditions, and include the intended color and finish because a different pigment or coating may not behave identically.
Make acceptance reviewable
Approve placement, color, surface appearance, and durability as separate decisions. Keep physical references that show both the pristine target and the permitted post-exposure condition. A photograph is useful supporting evidence but should not replace the controlled sample where subtle finish differences matter.
Release the decoration revision with substrate and packing references. Require review before switching printer, ink system, coating, or cap material. Include the approved configuration in the quotation, so a later cost reduction does not silently remove the process step that made the logo durable enough for the actual route.
