THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Filled perfume bottles lose weight during retention. Does that prove the pump leaks?
Verify the weighing method and use history, then compare untouched packs and suitable controls. Locate any liquid evidence before attributing the loss to a specific interface.
Establish a reliable baseline
Weigh identified complete packs using a suitable controlled method. Record whether the cap, label, and outer packaging are included each time. Confirm that samples were not sprayed, cleaned, or partially disassembled between observations. A changed weighing configuration can look like product loss.
Keep the storage condition and interval defined. Compare samples from the same formula and component lots, and include suitable controls agreed with the technical team. Do not interpret one small reading near the method’s uncertainty as a confirmed package failure.
Separate possible loss routes
Berlin Packaging lists leak testing among its quality methods. Ask the responsible laboratory or supplier to select a method appropriate to the suspected route and actual package.
- Inspect the outlet, actuator well, and cap interior.
- Check the closure and bottle contact region.
- Record storage orientation and visible wetting.
- Compare unopened retained packs with known use-history samples.
Avoid a premature tightening remedy
If wetting appears at the closure, review the approved application condition and bottle finish. If liquid gathers around the outlet, investigate the dispensing assembly separately. Tightening a collar without knowing its role may disturb the package and does not establish where the loss occurred.
If no liquid is visible, request further technical assessment instead of declaring the sprayer sound or defective. Compare the formula, package construction, and storage conditions. The relevant team should distinguish possible pathways and choose meaningful additional evidence; a generic cap replacement may not answer the question.
Approve the finding and corrective action
Set an application-specific acceptance method with appropriate measurement sensitivity. Record the method, conditioning, sample identities, and control behavior. Avoid inventing a universal mass-loss percentage for all perfumes or transferring a result from another formulation.
If a revised seal, engine, or bottle is proposed, repeat the relevant storage and functional work. Keep prior samples for comparison and document affected inventory. The final release should describe the actual evidence for the selected combination, rather than a broad leak-proof statement unsupported by the scope of the investigation.
