THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Does metal-free pathway mean that the pump contains no metal?
No. Request both the wetted-component declaration and full construction description. A metal-free formula path and an all-plastic pump are separate requirements.
Name the requirement precisely
A formulation team may want to avoid formula contact with metal. A packaging team may be evaluating the complete material mix. These goals are related but not identical, so list them separately in the enquiry and ask the supplier to answer each. Clarify whether a decorative shell is included in the construction declaration, even when it never contacts the formula.
O.Berk describes pump designs that isolate a metal spring from the product pathway. That example explains why a metal-free path does not necessarily remove metal from the package.
Match evidence to the claim
Obtain documentation for the selected engine and optional parts. A family brochure cannot identify an unconfirmed variant hidden inside an otherwise familiar exterior.
| Requirement | Evidence |
|---|---|
| No formula contact with metal | Wetted-component list and design confirmation |
| No metal anywhere in pump | Complete construction declaration |
| Suitable for sensitive formula | Selected assembly and bulk evaluation |
| Disposal or sorting statement | Complete-pack review for intended market |
Keep compatibility and materials connected
Silgan lists metal-free fluid paths on particular engines, while Aptar describes a specific monomaterial Future design. These are manufacturer-specific examples. Ask STDPAK to state its own proposed construction and variant references rather than adopting another company's terminology as proof.
A confirmed metal-free path still leaves plastics, seals and other contacting materials to assess. Have the formulation team define the relevant compatibility evaluation and inspect production-intent samples after the agreed conditions. Avoid treating the absence of one material as universal ingredient compatibility.
If the supplier later changes an engine or seal, revisit its declaration as well as dispensing. The product may look identical and deliver a similar portion while no longer meeting the original contact requirement.
Keep the approved documentation beside the component specification. Use equally precise wording in internal and consumer-facing statements. A narrow supported claim is more useful than a broad material promise that procurement cannot verify or receiving inspection cannot trace to the delivered assembly.
