LOTION & FOAM PUMPS / FIELD NOTE

Review an Invisible Lotion Pump Engine Substitution

Do not approve a hidden change from exterior photographs.

THE DECISION IN BRIEF

The supplier wants to substitute an engine with the same output and appearance. Can purchasing accept it directly?

Request the revised construction and change rationale, then assess affected compatibility, recovery, sealing and manufacturing evidence. Similar appearance and nominal dose do not establish equivalent performance.

Define the actual substitution

Ask which components change and which references remain the same. Include seals, spring location, housing and tube connection where relevant. Request the proposed production identity so approved samples cannot be confused with the existing version.

Aptar's PAV Treatment page lists several configurations within a pump family, while O.Berk identifies internal components that are not apparent externally. Together they explain why an unchanged silhouette is incomplete evidence.

Map change to affected questions

Use the technical teams' assessment to choose the necessary checks. The aim is a targeted review, not an automatic restart of unrelated artwork work.

Compare against the current approved assembly

Use representative existing and proposed samples with the intended formula, bottle and operating method. Evaluate the specific claimed equivalence and relevant after-storage behaviour. A brief water demonstration may support screening but cannot close formula approval.

Check the filling line if dimensions, gripping or insertion could change. Discuss whether mixed stock will exist and how the two versions can be identified. A transition that is technically acceptable still needs a practical inventory plan.

Require written approval before the substituted version enters production orders. If commercial timing makes a limited trial useful, identify its scope explicitly instead of calling it full approval.

Update the specification, retained reference and change register once evidence supports release. Record any remaining restrictions. This provides a clear decision for future reorders and prevents a temporary alternate engine from becoming the default without anybody owning the approval.

Ask whether the supplier will segregate existing and revised stock during the transition, and confirm which version each scheduled delivery will contain.
