THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Can a botanical cleanser with visible suspended material use our existing foamer?
Have the formulator and supplier review the actual suspended material and selected configuration. Compare delivery and foam through storage; do not infer suitability from a clear version of the cleanser.
Clarify what the visible material is
Distinguish intentional particles from separation, precipitate or a development defect. Ask the formulator for an appropriate description and whether the sample represents the intended finished product. Purchasing should not decide ingredient suitability from appearance alone. Include samples taken according to the intended bulk handling procedure, since a specially selected clear portion could conceal nonuniform material.
Silgan's formulation guidance calls for clear, homogeneous bulk without visible particles for its recommended foam quality. Treat that as relevant supplier guidance requiring a specific review, not a universal permission or prohibition for every technology.
Choose the right next step
Keep material identity visible throughout the comparison. A filtered or settled sample may no longer represent the product proposed for sale.
| Bulk state | Question for the teams |
|---|---|
| Intentional suspended particles | Is this design a suitable candidate? |
| Material appears after storage | Is the formulation stable? |
| Clear sample differs from production | Which sample is representative? |
| Particle content varies during dispensing | Does the user receive consistent product? |
Test more than the best-looking portion
Evaluate the first portion, stable operation and relevant restart after storage using the actual bulk. Observe whether liquid delivery and foam texture remain acceptable together. Inspect rejected samples without clearing every restriction before documentation.
If the formulator recommends removing or changing the suspended material, issue a new formula identity. If the supplier proposes another engine, preserve its reference. Both paths can be valid development choices, but the result needs to be traceable to the product the brand approves.
Discuss alternative dispensing formats early if the selected foamer is not an appropriate candidate. Repeatedly forcing an unsuitable brief through several visually similar heads consumes time without resolving the product requirement.
The commercial release should reflect one coherent decision: accepted formulation, suitable dispensing approach and evidence from representative samples. A successful clear-water or clear-base demonstration answers a different question and should remain development information.
