THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Can customers refill the bottle with any cleaner that sprays?
A successful first product does not approve a new liquid or a mixed residue. Limit the refill proposal to a defined combination reviewed by the formula and packaging teams.
Map the intended refill
Record the original formula, replacement formula and what remains in the bottle or pump between fills. The liquid path can retain product even when the bottle looks empty. Do not give informal advice to mix products or use household cleaning agents to prepare the dispenser.
Ask the responsible product team for the safe user process. If a refill system requires cleaning or draining, its instructions and evaluation belong to the project specification rather than an assumption made by packaging purchasing.
Evaluate the repeated-use package
Assess how the bottle opens and recloses, whether the tube remains secure, and whether dispensing changes through the intended refill cycles. Inspect seals and components without assigning a failure cause from appearance alone. Keep the sequence and liquid identities with every sample.
Compare the refilled candidate with a fresh control where useful. Differences may relate to residue, assembly history or wear. Changing the liquid, component and user preparation at the same time prevents a meaningful comparison.
Set a defensible boundary
State the approved refill and instructions precisely. A broad compatible-with-all-cleaners claim reaches beyond the evidence from one working formula. Marketing copy and customer support should use the same boundary as the technical approval.
Keep refill instructions, component references and approved liquid identities in one project record. If the proposed refill liquid changes later, reopen the relevant review before updating the label. The original formula approval is a baseline for comparison, not permission for unrestricted reuse.
