THE DECISION IN BRIEF
The trigger has an OFF position. Why are customers still leaving it open?
Check the cues and the task sequence before adding another label. A setting that an engineer can find may still be unclear to someone opening the pack for the first time.
Observe without coaching
Give the assembled pack to representative evaluators with the intended instructions. Ask them to prepare it, dispense and put it away. Record where they hesitate and which direction they turn the nozzle. Demonstrating the movement first removes the first-use question you intended to answer.
Use the actual nozzle finish and markings. A prototype with handwritten arrows is not the same interface as the production pack. Include the conditions in which the pack is handled, such as wet hands or gloves, when they belong to the real task.
Distinguish indication from restraint
Check whether the position indication remains readable and whether the nozzle settles in the intended position. Do not assume an OFF marking establishes a transport seal, a tamper feature or child resistance. Each of those would require its own applicable design and evidence.
If a supplier changes the indicator, compare operation after the change. Stronger contrast, altered texture or clearer copy may help, but the selected solution needs a new user check rather than approval from an enlarged artwork proof alone.
Close the instruction loop
Agree how the position is shown in artwork, photography and customer instructions. Keep the evaluated component revision with that material. A later change in nozzle direction or arrangement can make otherwise polished instructions wrong.
Give customer support the final opening sequence and production photographs. If complaints continue, check which step is missed and whether the supplied component matches the evaluated version. Rewrite the instruction around that step rather than adding more general warning text.
