BOTTLE STOPPERS & LIDS / FIELD NOTE

Adding a Tamper Band Around a Bar-Top Stopper

Evaluate the band as an additional component with its own opening and presentation checks.

THE DECISION IN BRIEF

Will a shrink band make our stopper more secure for shipping?

State the purpose of the band first. Indicating first opening, retaining a top during handling and providing a decorative finish are different functions, and a band should not conceal an unresolved sealing problem.

Specify the intended signal

Describe what the buyer and user should see before and after opening. If the pack needs a recognizable first-opening indication, have the responsible team define the requirement and evaluate whether the proposed design achieves it. Do not call a decorative sleeve tamper-evident without that review.

Keep tax, labelling or other market-specific obligations with the relevant specialist. A packaging article or supplier photograph cannot settle those requirements for every destination.

Check band and stopper interaction

Trial the band on the selected top and bottle. Examine whether it wrinkles, moves, distorts decoration or interferes with a comfortable grip. Evaluate the user’s opening sequence with the intended tear feature and instructions, rather than judging only an unopened display pack.

Ask the filling team to assess the application process against the bottle, liquid and closure. Do not prescribe heat conditions from an unrelated sample. Preserve the supplier’s approved process information for the actual materials.

Keep the original closure approval visible

Continue to evaluate stopper retention and sealing independently. If the band is removed for ordinary use, the reclosed bottle still relies on the stopper and bottle interface. A stronger band is not a correction for that interface.

Retain an unopened approved pack and an example after opening. Those references help production inspect placement and help the instructions team show the real user sequence. Keep any first-opening claim within the function that the responsible team reviewed.

KEEP THIS WITH THE SAMPLE

For your buying brief

  • Define the band’s intended function.
  • Trial the real opening sequence.
  • Do not use a band to close an unresolved stopper leak.
