THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Our oil sprayer works after priming but struggles whenever it has stood unused; what should we compare?
Compare previously primed assemblies after a realistic pause with fresh references, documenting first-action behavior and any interventions needed to restore delivery.
Preserve the difference between startup and restart
A pump that dispenses normally immediately after filling may behave differently when used again. Identify how the affected sample was operated, stored and closed. Record whether the complaint concerns no liquid, delayed liquid, a changed deposit or residue at the outlet.
Do not use a fresh priming demonstration to dismiss a restart complaint. The relevant history includes previous use and the pause. Ask users or internal operators for the sequence they followed rather than assuming that every returned bottle encountered the same conditions.
Compare histories deliberately
Prepare matched assemblies and establish delivery using the intended instructions. Retain a group for the agreed pause and use another suitable reference for comparison. Observe the first actions after standing separately from later normal dispensing.
If the paused samples recover after extra actions, record that dependence and assess whether it meets the product requirement. If they do not recover, preserve them for supplier review. Compare any visible formula or component changes, but do not infer a valve failure or specific leakage path from restart behavior alone.
- Record last use and storage orientation.
- Keep cap or lock status identified.
- Observe first delivery before wiping or adjusting.
- Log the action that restored performance, if any.
Ask a configuration-specific question
Aptar distinguishes configurations by formula type. Send the supplier the paused sample's previous use, storage and restart sequence, with the corresponding normal-delivery record. Ask which additional observation would help choose between examination of that assembly and comparison of another candidate.
Send the supplier the assembly reference and the before-and-after sequence. An alternative may need evaluation for restart, normal spray and package fit together. If the only workable instruction requires repeated preparatory actions, the product team must decide whether that experience is acceptable and how it would be communicated. Preserve the selected restart requirement in later sample comparisons.
Identify storage handling
Include whether the user stored the bottle upright, laid it down or repeatedly removed the head. These details can guide the supplier's next question without establishing a cause. A restart proposal should address the actual observed history rather than an assumed upright bottle that nobody has documented.
