THE DECISION IN BRIEF
The supplier calls the sprayer metal-free, but it has a metal collar. What should we verify?
Ask exactly which pathway or components the claim covers, obtain an identified construction statement, and review compatibility for the actual formula independently.
Clarify the claim boundary
A decorative metal collar does not by itself identify what contacts the formula. Conversely, an all-plastic exterior does not prove there is no metal inside. Ask the supplier to distinguish the product-contact pathway, spring location, and external decorative parts for the exact proposed configuration.
Aptar describes Essencia as having no metal contact inside the pump. Treat that as a scoped construction claim. Do not transfer it to every item from the same supplier or rewrite it as proof that the complete finished package contains no metal.
Request a precise evidence packet
A clear diagram or confidential technical statement can be more useful than a generic marketing paragraph. Agree how the information will be reviewed and retained.
- Identify the pump SKU, revision, and proposed engine.
- List the scope of contacting-material information.
- Clarify spring location and any stated pathway limitation.
- Record external metal components separately from the claim.
Keep compatibility as a separate decision
A metal-free pathway may be relevant to a formulation review, but it does not prove universal compatibility. The formula still encounters specified materials, seals, and surfaces. Supply the actual application and ask the technical team to determine appropriate contact and performance work.
If the supplier proposes a different engine to achieve the claim, evaluate its actuation, leakage, restart, and cap relationship. A preferred construction feature should not override failed essential functions. Keep the original candidate as an identified comparison rather than relying on memory of its feel.
Control wording and future changes
Have the responsible team approve any claim used on the website, specification, or buyer presentation. Preserve the supplier’s actual scope and avoid broader phrases such as chemical-proof or suitable for every fragrance. A documented material pathway is evidence about construction, not an unlimited performance warranty.
Require notification if the engine, spring arrangement, seals, or contacting materials change. Receiving staff may be unable to see that difference, so purchasing needs a traceable supplier commitment. Link the accepted statement to the final order configuration and reassess it when sourcing an exterior-identical alternative.
