LOTION & FOAM PUMPS / BUYING GUIDE

Select a Lotion Pump for Repeated Shower Exposure

Ask for the selected design's water-exposure evidence.

THE DECISION IN BRIEF

Can an ordinary locking lotion pump be used for shower products?

Review the complete assembly for the intended wet environment. Request applicable water-exposure evidence and evaluate selected samples; locking alone does not establish resistance to water entering the pack.

Describe actual exposure

A shower product may stand upright under occasional splashes, receive direct water flow or be stored where water collects around the head. Describe the intended situation instead of asking for a generic waterproof pump. Include how the bottle is handled during use and whether the actuator is usually locked or open.

Aptar's Hi Flow resource describes a specific water-resistant design feature. This shows that shower suitability can be an engineered configuration, rather than a capability to inherit from the general lotion-pump category.

Separate the interfaces

Ask the supplier how its selected design addresses the application. Do not extrapolate another manufacturer's product description to an unverified assembly.

Approve before and after exposure

Use production-intent bottles, formula and assembly settings. Agree an exposure and inspection plan with the relevant technical teams. Include operation afterwards, not only a visual check that the outside remains attractive.

If the formula appears diluted or changes after a trial, preserve samples and have the qualified team investigate. Do not infer a microbiological result from appearance or claim that a pump design eliminates contamination. Packaging evidence should support the specific ingress requirement it was intended to assess.

Check that a proposed protective cap or collar does not collect water in an unintended way. Evaluate its removal and replacement while hands are wet, and inspect any decorated surfaces that contact water repeatedly.

Carry the accepted wet-use configuration into the order, including seals and optional parts. A similar dry-use variant should not enter a reorder without review. The extra development effort is focused: define the environment, obtain a credible candidate and approve the actual filled assembly against that use.
