THE DECISION IN BRIEF
The nozzle develops a dry plug overnight. How should we compare alternatives?
Reproduce the intended pause, formula and cap state. Compare first-stroke residue and suitable actuator options; consecutive daytime pumping does not demonstrate acceptable overnight restart.
Define the pause that causes trouble
Record how long the outlet remains unused, where the bottle stands and whether an overcap is installed. Document how the preceding portion separated and whether somebody wiped the head. These details can differ between a supplier demonstration and a customer's bathroom routine.
Inspect the next delivery separately. A detached plug, an off-direction portion and increased pressing effort are different observations. Later strokes may look normal even though the first one gives the customer a poor experience.
Run a restart comparison
Agree the relevant use-and-pause sequence with the product team. This proposed sequence is a comparison framework, not a universal test method or claim of completed testing.
- Dispense production-representative bulk until operation is stable.
- Leave the outlet in its normal post-use condition and record any wiping.
- Store with the intended cap state for the agreed interval.
- Collect and inspect the first portion separately.
- Repeat with identified candidate heads using the same conditions.
Choose a credible remedy
Silgan's beauty catalogue describes wipe-away heads and a self-sealing actuator option on specific designs. Ask which comparable features exist for the quoted reference. Those examples do not establish that an unrelated pump prevents formula drying.
A wiping instruction adds a task to every use. Decide whether that task suits the product before relying on it as the only solution. Do not recommend adding liquid or changing the formula at the nozzle; formulation decisions belong with the qualified team.
Check where the first portion lands and whether surrounding decoration becomes wet. A head that clears residue forcefully may create a new complaint. Review cap removal and replacement after repeated use, especially if residue transfers onto its interior.
Keep the accepted restart observations in the specification. Revisit them when fragrance, formulation, outlet geometry or protective parts change. This preserves the behaviour approved by the product team instead of treating every later nozzle as interchangeable.
