THE DECISION IN BRIEF
Our coloured cleanser looks strong in the bottle but pale as foam. Should we reject the foamer?
Review the dispensed appearance against an agreed product target and final formula. Compare texture and liquid consumption before attributing the colour impression to a defective pump.
Separate three visual decisions
The bulk in a transparent bottle, a fresh foam portion and the foam during spreading are different presentations. Decide which one marketing intends to match. A bottle colour swatch cannot serve as the only acceptance reference for all three.
Silgan describes foam as a result of mixing liquid and air and offers texture-related configuration choices. That provides a reason to judge the actual dispensed portion, rather than expecting it to look identical to the undispensed liquid.
Build an appearance comparison
Use consistent lighting, receiving surface and observation timing. These controls help people discuss the same result without turning photographs into unsupported colour measurements.
- Review final bulk in the selected bottle.
- Dispense identified candidate configurations by the same method.
- Compare fresh foam and the intended application stage.
- Record liquid consumption alongside visible portion.
- Have the formulator approve any proposed colourant change.
Avoid a formula change driven by a misleading sample
Increasing colourant merely to match a photograph can affect product development decisions beyond packaging. Ask the responsible team to review the target and formulation rather than instructing the supplier to make a darker foam by changing output.
Compare configurations that already meet functional requirements. An attractive shade is of limited value if the portion becomes too wet, uses excessive product or cannot restart acceptably. Treat colour as one part of the use experience.
Use final decorative components in the presentation review. A strongly coloured actuator or bottle may change how people perceive the foam next to it, while a plain prototype provides different visual context.
Record the accepted dispensed reference and the conditions used to produce it. If the bulk colour or foam engine changes, review the appearance again where relevant. The practical purchasing goal is a consistent approved presentation, not an assumption that every coloured liquid should retain its bottle appearance when dispensed as foam.
