THE DECISION IN BRIEF
The quote says 30,000 pieces. Can that be split across every colour and finish?
Ask what the quantity applies to. A minimum for one finished assembly, one molded color or one decoration setup can produce very different purchase commitments.
Break the proposal into orderable lines
List each requested assembly and the color of each visible part. A white closure with a blue actuator is not necessarily equivalent to an all-blue assembly for production planning. Include decoration and cap choices where they vary.
Ask the supplier to state the minimum and price basis for each line, plus any shared component quantity. Do not assume a total-volume price applies to a small color split simply because the parts look similar.
Confirm the release basis
Put the agreed splits and any permitted variation into the order acknowledgement. Avoid relying on a chat message that says assorted colours are fine. Receiving should be able to compare carton counts against the same line-level requirements.
Calculate the total commitment from the acknowledged line splits, setup charges and any component stock held for later orders. Compare that amount with a simpler color programme. A lower displayed piece price may buy more inventory than the buyer intended.
