DROPPER BOTTLES & ASSEMBLIES / BUYING GUIDE

Separate Pipette Graduation Marks from Delivered Volume

Check filling, reading and release behaviour before relying on a printed millilitre scale.

THE DECISION IN BRIEF

Our pipette has a 1 ml marking. Does that guarantee the user receives 1 ml?

The marking identifies a reference on the pipette. Verify the fill, reading method and released volume with the selected assembly and formula; a photograph establishes none of those results.

Specify what the mark is meant to do

A graduated appearance can help customers locate a fill level, but define the scale’s purpose first. Is it a visual reference, a repeatable cosmetic portion, or part of a regulated measurement claim? Those uses require different evidence. Do not allow a decorative catalogue photograph to decide the claim for the finished product.

Ask what the proposed markings represent and how they are specified and checked. Record the pipette reference, scale artwork, units, reading position and any stated tolerances or method. If that information has not been supplied, treat the scale as unverified rather than adding an accuracy promise to the product page.

Separate uptake from release

Observe whether the intended quantity can be drawn into the pipette using the proposed bulb. Record the fill after an agreed action and waiting period, with the pipette in a defined position. Air bubbles, incomplete bulb release and different squeeze techniques can make apparently similar demonstrations difficult to compare.

Then measure what leaves the pipette under the agreed release method. Liquid retained on the wall or tip belongs in the observation. The amount present at a mark and the amount delivered to a vessel are different measurements. Specify which matters to the user and avoid treating one as proof of the other.

Use a method the buyer can repeat

An evaluation can collect liquid into a suitable tared vessel and record delivered mass. Conversion to volume requires the relevant formula density and conditions; do not silently assume they match water. Agree equipment, technique, sample count and acceptance criteria with the responsible team before reviewing results.

Include more than one operator if normal use is part of the decision. Compare full and partial bulb actions, different fill levels and the dispensing angle as appropriate. Keep these observations separate from controlled measurement. A single successful demonstration or an average alone does not describe all the variation a customer may experience.

Approve artwork and performance separately

Approve scale legibility, position and durability as artwork requirements, then record functional evidence separately. Check whether decoration remains readable after contact with the actual formula and ordinary handling. A more visible scale can improve usability without resolving inaccurate or inconsistent delivery.

For quotation, send the intended claim, units, proposed marks, formula and use sequence. Ask the supplier to distinguish a standard appearance reference from a configuration evaluated for that purpose. Avoid medical dosing statements unless the complete product and applicable requirements have been assessed by responsible specialists; catalogue markings are not that assessment.
