THE DECISION IN BRIEF
The supplier wants to replace the closure gasket with an equivalent material. What should we request?
Identify the material and geometry differences, review formula-contact evidence, and verify the relevant application and sealing performance before accepting the substitution.
Review material and interface together
Berlin Packaging’s leak, torque, and dimensional methods illustrate distinct package questions. Have the supplier and technical team select checks relevant to the actual proposed change.
| Area | Evidence |
|---|---|
| Formula contact | Applicable material and use information |
| Geometry | Controlled gasket and closure references |
| Application | Confirmed assembly condition |
| Sealing | Relevant filled-pack results |
| User action | Opening or refilling where intended |
Compare under the actual use conditions
Use representative approved bottles and the final formula. Include relevant storage orientations, conditioning, and handling. If the product is refillable, assess the intended opening and reclosure sequence as well as initial assembly.
If the proposed gasket passes fresh checks but differs after storage, preserve the assemblies and request a contact and interface review. If failures follow one bottle group, compare the finish rather than rejecting the material from a single result. Keep comparisons identified and avoid changing gasket, closure, and application setting simultaneously.
Ask which earlier reports remain applicable and why. Review relevant market documentation separately from functional testing. A passing seal does not establish all material requirements, while a material statement does not prove the assembled closure meets the product brief.
Release the revised gasket only within the approved construction and application record. Specify transition handling, lot identity, and change notification. Receiving may not be able to see the internal difference, so purchasing needs a traceable commitment that repeat orders use the accepted material rather than an unreviewed equivalent.
